How to Stand Apart
Several years ago, I worked for a hotel that presented certain challenges when speaking with potential clients. I attended the annual conference for the management company in 2018, the guest speaker, Mrs. Holly Zoba, spoke to the group about “Standing Apart from the Crowd.”
I would like to share with you my top 4 takeaways from that presentation that have changed my life for the better.
So, how do you stand apart the crowd? All hotels have beds, restrooms, hallways, televisions etc…
1. Be YOU!
When you are your true self and have a genuine relationship with a potential or existing guest this speaks volumes. There is only one YOU! You have your own set of unique skills and assets. People want to work with people who are human like themselves.
2. Be MEMORABLE!
Create a memorable experience. Often, people assume that the only way to do this is by discounting your product. When a memorable experience is created it builds and reinforces the value of your product, and of YOU! Some examples of how to create this might be stocking a favorite snack or drink that is not usually in the sundry shop or personalizing a conversation with them.
3. Be RELIABLE!
Knowing you can depend on someone to come through for you is key to a fruitful relationship. We all have that friend who is there for you no matter what. Doesn’t that make you feel good inside? This is the same feeling we want our guests to have. Consistent service creates trust that inspires guests to book with you.
4. Be BENEFICIAL!
Listen and understand the guest needs. Taking time to ask questions and uncover their specific needs creates benefits. We are all unique individuals with unique needs. This allows you to customize and think “outside the box” to take care of the guest.
Always Keep it Simple
Early in my career, I often overthought the question of how to “Stand Apart from the Crowd” and made it more complicated than it needed to be. It is simple, be YOU. Others may try to come close but only YOU can be YOU.
